Working at Roedean

I came for two years and am still here seventeen years later. Why? The girls, my colleagues, that special feel that Roedean has and the proximity to vibrant Brighton. I love it.

We can only give our students inspirational teaching, friendly boarding and the all-round unique Roedean experience thanks to the commitment of our staff. In the same way that a happy child gives the best to his or her studies, happy staff draw the best out of our students.   

We asked our staff, ‘What is the best thing about working at Roedean?’ Here are some of their thoughts:

• The girls are free to be themselves; there is no one ‘look’ or hairstyle, there is no preferred activity or interest. What is valued is honesty and individuality.
• The relaxed and vibrant atmosphere is the best thing. So much is achieved through academic excellence, sport, drama, music, dance and pastoral care.
• I think it is the feeling of belonging, the sense of identity that everyone has with the school. It’s the same whether you're a student, member of staff or parent; it gets into your blood.
• It's that amazing sea view that does it for me. On a busy day it's great just to take a few moments to look out at the view.
• I love the global feel to Roedean and find that I learn something new about the world from our students nearly every day. Did you know that cars are banned one day a week in Seoul, or that you are not allowed to keep a dog in certain parts of Hong Kong?
• The students at Roedean are courteous, friendly and helpful. It is a pleasure and privilege to work with them.
• There is a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect between the girls and the staff.
