Swimming underpins Sport at Roedean

Philosophy of Sport

Roedean provides a holistic approach to fitness education for all girls of all abilities.

Girls working hard in the classroom need a balance of fresh air and physical activity; and they need to develop good habits now in preparation for possibly sedentary careers.

That said, we recognise not everybody just wants to play competitive sport. So, alongside our PE curriculum, and the associated fixture opportunities, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular (Club) and lifestyle activities such as Pilates and Zumba.

Our facilities include a multi-purpose sports hall with a well-equipped fitness room, a 25m indoor swimming pool, 12 netball courts, 15 tennis courts, hockey pitches, a cricket pitch, an athletics track, a golf driving range and squash courts. We have a close relationship with Albourne Equestrian Centre.

At the same time, Roedean has a long tradition of sporting prowess.

Elite performers are often scouted at their prep or primary schools, enrolled on the scholarship programme and then coached by specialist teachers and coaches on arrival at Roedean.

We also encourage performance athletes to join, train and compete with local clubs as appropriate.

Current sports scholars are Regional netballers, County hockey and cricket players, Club swimmers, League footballers ... and we also have a National-Record-holding athlete.
