FCO Families

Roedean's Headmistress, Mrs King, is the daughter of a diplomat who was posted to Australia, South Asia and East Africa in the course of his 35 year career. In a recent issue of Carousel magazine, she explained that she feels highly qualified to promote the benefits of boarding.

"My belief, reaffirmed on a daily basis as I see my girls here thrive, is that teenagers gain a huge amount from the community life that boarding provides. For example, the boarding school offers a safe environment and clear parameters for teenagers to get together often missing from British town centres.

At Roedean, we are proud of the racial diversity within the school and encourage the girls to think of themselves as global citizens.

Having spent my own childhood in a wide variety of countries I feel comfortable in a school that promotes such an outlook, but I also recognize the need for stability and rootedness.

A boarding school can offer exactly this to the child of a diplomat; we encourage an understanding of and an involvement in the local Brighton community, as well as simply providing the stability of location that the family may simply not be able to offer.

My own life has been hugely enriched by my childhood; both the variety of countries and cultures I have been privileged to live amongst, but also the stable environment of the boarding school I attended as a teenager. The best of both worlds!"

Fees

To reflect this close link with the diplomatic service, we are delighted to offer special terms on the boarding fees for daughters of FCO families.
