Prep school pupils

Roedean’s independent preparatory school

All of us at the Junior School work hard to ensure the children at our independent prep school are motivated, eager to develop and curious to learn. These values will be essential for our children as they prepare to move out of prep school and up to secondary school.

The school day

Doors open at 8.30am, and the morning session starts at 8.50am. The children stop for lunch at 12.10pm. Afternoon sessions finish at 4pm and after-school care is available until 5.45pm. By this stage, prep (homework) is an established part of the school day, increasing gradually to two subjects (an hour) by Year 6.

At least an hour of sport is played each day, ready for the regular competitive matches against other prep schools.

Year 5 children take up the violin or cello, and continue this into Year 6. Also in Year 6 the children get their first taste of the main Roedean campus when they go over for their weekly science lessons in the labs.

This academic focus is the biggest advantage of private prep schools.

Uniform

The junior school uniform for boys is simple grey trousers, white shirt and navy jumper. The girls wear a Campbell kilt, white blouse and navy jumper. We expect all our children to be smartly dressed and well-groomed.

If you are considering independent prep schools for your son or daughter, start by visiting us. Come to one of our Open Days or arrange an individual visit.
