We are delighted to be announcing strong 2011 GCSE results. 31% of entries resulted in an A* grade and 65% in A*-A. Forty three students obtained at least one A* and fifty one students obtained at least one grade A.
Overall, thirteen students obtained straight A* or A grades: many congratulations to Irina Bataeva, Alice Chen, Heisy Chung, Natalie Hak, Chloe Jeon, Jenny Lin, Camilla Longman, Mildred Mak, Liz Mbu, Theresa Peltz, Isabelle Regan, Barbara Roberts and Danielle So.
Among specific subject successes, Roedean’s commitment to developing foreign language competency continues to buck the national trend.
At a time when language teaching is under severe pressure in the UK, there was an 8% increase in the number of entries for the six languages available at Roedean.
The number of A*s achieved in French, German and Spanish has almost doubled. Three quarters of candidates taking Latin, and all candidates taking Japanese and Mandarin, achieved an A* or A.
Roedean’s investment in languages, through the four new language assistants and the new cultural programme focusing on world cultures and mandarin for beginnners , will further build on these results in the coming years.
