Frances King has been the Headmistress of Roedean since 2008.
Mrs King attended Ashford School, Kent, as a boarder. She has an MA in Theology (St Hilda’s, Oxford), an MA in Philosophy and Ethics (University of London) and an MBA in Global Educational Leadership (University of Hull).
She taught Religious Studies at Lady Eleanor Holles, Francis Holland, Guildford County and St Mary’s Ascot. Prior to Roedean she was Head at Heathfield School, Ascot.
Mrs King serves on the Girls’ School Association (GSA) Boarding Committee and the HMC/GSA Universities Committee. She speaks at conferences regularly, with a particular interest in the benefits of boarding and the global dimension to the education market.
She is married to Tim, a psychodynamic counsellor, and has a daughter, Emily, who works in Geneva and a son, Henry, studying at the University of Liverpool. She lives in the middle of the Roedean site with Tim, their two cats and chocolate labrador, Gilly.
Mrs King spent her childhood in countries as diverse as Pakistan, Kenya, Canada and Israel; as a result she has a deep interest in the world’s diverse cultures and a love of travel. When at home, she relaxes by walking over the Downs, reading and meeting friends.
