Roedean girls enjoying the year 7, 8 and 9 curriculum

Roedean's year 7, 8 and 9 curriculum

Our curriculum motivates our girls to develop a genuine love of learning. With excellent facilities and inspired teaching, our staff work hard to ensure that every student has just what she needs to succeed. Each student has a tutor to monitor her academic work and progress.

Our girls learn in small, friendly classes to build their confidence. We include cross-curricular work and ensure the girls develop good research and study habits through project work and trips out of school. Year 7, 8 and 9 subjects include:

  • Art
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Classical Studies
  • Dance
  • Design Technology
  • Drama
  • English
  • French
  • Geography
  • German or Spanish
  • History
  • Home Economics
  • ICT
  • Latin
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physics
  • PSHE
  • Religious Studies
  • Sport

Our lower school curriculum is supported by trips outside school to put classroom learning into practice.

In the second half of Year 9, the girls consider which GCSE/IGCSE subjects they will take in Year 10. They are guided in these decisions by their tutors. We send parents detailed information about the GCSE/IGCSE programmes, so that they can provide additional insight and help their daughters in the selection process.
