With the beautiful beach on one side and the rolling hills on the other, Roedean is one of a kind and so are the girls that come here.
Coming to a school of Roedean’s reputation can take a bit of adjustment for our younger girls. Since the campus is so safe and spacious, there is no need to rush them into growing up too fast. Instead, we build our girls’ confidence gradually, giving them increasing independence in stages. The broad curriculum ensures that they have a rounded foundation for future academic studies.
However, we do not believe in a one-dimensional hunt for academic success and instead provide the girls with the opportunity to learn, to experiment, and to take pleasure in their school achievements. We provide a friendly, supportive environment – all they need to do is work hard, have fun and be happy.
A good example of this is a Year 7 student’s description of a recent maths trip to Burgess Hill School for Girls:
“We completed a variety of activities, from a maths quiz to making gigantic footballs out of paper hexagons and pentagons. There were prizes for the best ‘football’ and for answering the questions in the quiz correctly. It was a really fun day and we are glad we were able to go.”
Girls in Years 7 and 8 wear a practical, durable uniform made up of a simple navy skirt and a choice of pale blue, pink or yellow school polo shirts. For formal occasions, they wear a navy wool blazer and pale blue shirt.
