My name is Sarah Bakhtiari and I am the Head of Lower School responsible for girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 (known at Roedean as Upper Three, Lower Four and Upper Four).
I oversee the role of the tutors and liaise closely with the House staff. We all work together as a team to ensure that your daughter will quickly feel at home at Roedean, both in and out of the classroom.
I hope your daughter is excited about the facilities and tuition awaiting her at Roedean. A varied and fulfilling extra curriculum programme will be rewarding and is an important part of school life. We hope your daughter will want to be involved in the sports clubs and activities, choirs and orchestras which are all part of Roedean’s extra-curricular programme. In addition, we offer a wide range of subjects which require extra tuition.
However, before filling in the application forms for extra subjects, I would like you to be aware of the busy weekly timetable for Upper Three, Lower Four and Upper Four. Of the 19 subjects studied, approximately 13 each generate twenty minutes of prep (homework) a week.
Whilst we do not wish to limit the number of extra activities in which your daughter engages, my advice is that she should choose a small number initially. When she has settled in, she may well feel she can cope with more activities, but in the early weeks she needs time make the necessary adjustments. Many girls do find their new routine quite tiring and we are keen not to overburden them.
