The Brighton Secondary Schools Swimming Championships were held at the Prince Regent Pool on the 23 March. Roedean was competing against 6 local schools: Brighton & Hove High School, Hove Park, Varndean, Blatchington Mill, Dorothy Stringer, and Patcham. These schools provided stiff competition, with many 'club' swimmers competing for their schools.
In the 15 events that we entered with students from Upper 3 - Upper 5, our placings after 50m sprint and relay events were:
1st in 7 events
2nd in 4 events
3rd in 2 events
4th in 2 events
This resulted in a total of 32 medals won by Roedean!
In addition to winning the championship, 5 Junior swimmers officially broke previous Roedean records:
The U12 50m Freestyle is now 30.40 - Isabella Mason
(broke her own record of 30.61 set in 2010)
The U12 50m Backstroke is now 38.39 - Isabella Mason
(was last set in 1981 by Catrin Rowlands in a time of 43.59)
The U12 50m Breaststroke is now 42.72 - Amelia Balthazor
(was last set in 2000 by Sarah Lee in a time of 43.69)
The U13 50m Freestyle is now 31.09 - Abby Price
(was last set in 2010 by Ella Miele in a time of 32.31)
The U13 50m Backstroke is now 36.02 - Abby Price
(was last set in 2000 by Amy Samra in a time of 37.32)
It is clear from these excellent results that Roedeans' swimming is going from strength to strength. It is wonderful that these swimmers are so young and will be able to fly the flag for Roedean for many years to come.
