Rounders and Rock Pools

The 2011 recruitment calendar got off to a great start on Sunday 13 June with 40 girls spending the afternoon exploring Roedean, rock pools and secret tunnels.

Girls from London, Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex all arrived to be met by some of our present Year 7 girls. The group then walked to our extensive fields to be organised in to various teams. The new and old quickly integrated through fun warm ups, requiring both competition and co-operation. A variation of the game of Rounders was then played, allowing all 40 girls to be involved for an hour until the need for doughnuts and juice took over.

The Biology Labs were the next port of call where everyone was shown videos, pictures and containers full of sea creatures to give a taste of what the girls could hope to see on the beach. Then, armed with nets, gloves, buckets and jam jars, the group headed for the tunnel and down to the beach.

Crabs, shrimps, fish, and seaweed of all shapes, sizes and colours were found. Feet got wet and fish got away, but no one was disappointed and friends were made. Staff brought their families and dogs to join in with the informality of the afternoon and the warmth of both the weather and spirit of the day ensured that this was a great experience for all.
