Roedean piano teacher, Yoko Ono, performed 6 concerts during a musical tour of China.
The concerts were held between the 10th and 19th September 2011 in 5 cities and their fabulous venues.
The first concert in Huzhou was at the Grand Theatre with a conference held beforehand for children and parents. The performance in the packed concert hall in Zhoushan coincided with the day of the Moon Festival and also included some Chinese music to celebrate this special day. Then two concerts in Beijing were held at the Beijing City International School and the Beijing Concert Hall of the Military Band of China. The Grand Theatre, one of the most eye catching and impressive attractions of Chonggin housed a full audience and the final concert was played outdoors by a beautiful lake as part of Hanzhou Wold Leisure Expo 2011.
Yoko Ono received her early musical training in Japan and in 1981 moved to London to join the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Christopher Elton and won numerous prizes and the Leverhulme Postgraduate Studentship. Since making her Purcell Room debut to considerable public and critical acclaim, she has been in demand as a soloist and chamber musician appearing at the Barbican and Wigmore Halls, international festivals in the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland and Japan. Yoko Ono also teaches at the Royal College of Music junior department.
