On 17 May 2011 at the K2 Stadium in Crawley, Roedean's combined U4 and L5 students won the East Sussex round of the English Schools Athletics - Schools Cup Competition. This was a national competition taking place in counties all over the country.
Roedean achieved first place after a day of track and field events and are through to the Regional Finals which take place in the week of 13 - 23 June 2011.
Well done and congratulations to the following 12 students who represented Roedean on the day: Francesca A-Rivers, Imogen Davies, Olivia Wetherill, Nikki Payne, Jess Jasper, Phoebe Tomlinson, Paula Steffens, Ife Ike-Nwabuoku, Grace Swann, Sophie Frost, Simisola Olagundoye and Ivy Robin.
The rules of the competition are very specific and allow a school to compete with 12 athletes in the right age brackets. All dates of birth of our athletes are entered and verified before they are allowed to take part. All students have to compete in two events. The team excelled in a range of excellent performances and achieved many personal best times and distances. The girls and parents were thrilled!
Phoebe Tomlinson broke the School 800m Record beating the record by 12 seconds. The record was held by Phoebe and she managed to take her time from 2.45 minutes to a new time of 2.33 minutes in an outstanding race.
The schools Roedean competed against were Brighton & Hove High School, Dorothy Stringer High School, Varndean, Cardinal Newman, Priory School, Ringmer School, Mayfield School, Helenswood and St. Bedes.
