Sports Day took place on Saturday 25 June and what a breezy afternoon it was! The splash of colour from the waving pom poms and banners was a cheerful sight to start the afternoon off.
It was great to see all students in U3, L4 and U4 competing and many students in L5, U5 and 61. The stronger athletes in 62 were keen to represent their houses as well. To conclude track events, 128 students were involved in relays which was an exciting affair and had the crowd on their feet!
With all the scores added together House One were crowned Sports Day winners 8 points ahead of House 4 in second place. Houses 2 and 3 gave every event their best efforts throughout the afternoon, with House 3 gaining 3rd place.
The Golden Mile Relay was very exhilarating to watch as the last event on the track on Sports Day. Teams competed for the Golden Mile Cup, presented to the event 3 years ago, by an OR, Clementine Dulley. As teams limbered up the whisper was, will it be the Parents, the OR's, one of the Sixth Form teams or the Staff Team who will win? The lead changed hands a number of times and as spectators cheered more and more loudly, this seemed to edge the Staff Team into a lead with several hundred metres to go. Mrs King gave the team a great start and Mr Orys powered home, to complete the last stretch of the run. Congratulations to the Staff Team.
The wind conditions did not settle and a short presentation of programme cover prizes and annual athletics cups were awarded to conclude. The many certificates and medals were presented to students in the final assembly of the term.
We look forward to welcoming you all to next years Sports Day on Saturday 30 June 2012. Let us hope the wind speeds are very light and sun shines throughout the afternoon!
