A Sixth Form girl at Roedean, Miss Morgan Taylor, was a special guest on BBC TVs Newsnight programme on Monday 25th June. She represented the views of the UK’s young people in a lively debate about further integration with Europe.
The popular current affairs programme, which regularly attracts a million viewers, was presented live by Mr Jeremy Paxman. Panellists were MEP Mr Nick Farage, Mr David Davis MP, Mr Paddy Ashdown MP and Mr Peter Hain MP.
“It was an experience of a lifetime to appear on Newsnight. I felt nervous but excited and it seemed to go really well,” says Miss Taylor, who joined the girls' boarding school in 2007.
Miss Taylor made the point that in the face of the mounting Euro Crisis, the UK needs to make a decision as to whether it is going to be ‘properly in the EU or properly out of it.’ The growing uncertainty regarding Britain’s position is affecting the economic and employment opportunities for young people across the UK. She explained her view that ‘there is no half-way house in Brussels anymore.’
“When I started at Roedean I would never have considered public speaking. However, as a result of being on the Student Council, joining the Brighton and Hove Youth Council, and now as a member of the UK Youth Parliament, I am delighted to speak up for and represent young people.” Miss Taylor concluded.
When Morgan Taylor finishes at Roedean she plans to study French and Law at one of London’s leading universities.
