Roedean hosted an initial round of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Top of the Bench Competition on Thursday 19 January, the first time that Sussex schools had taken part in the annual event for over a decade.
Twelve schools entered teams of four students, two Y9s, a Y11 and a Y12 to carry out practical work on titrations, rates of reaction and metal acid reactions as well as working in pairs for a test of theory.
Eastbourne College won the round with a score of 91% and, as they also beat the top scoring teams at initial rounds held at Charterhouse and Whitgift, it is Eastbourne who will be representing the South of England at the National Final.
Roedean was represented by Beth Thomas, Elysia Holmes, Aanya Hirdaramani and Grace Swann.
