Roedean has taken the first step in the boarding house refurbishment by appointing award-winning architects Buckley Gray Yeoman (BGY).
The refurbishment involves the major reconfiguration and redesign of over 200 bedrooms and communal spaces, providing areas for socialising as well as interactive learning and private study. The design will also create communal breakout areas.
However, the modernisation of the boarding houses will remain sensitive to our rich heritage by preserving the impressive original detailing of the houses, such as the fireplaces and staircases.
Paul White, Director of BGY said: ‘We are delighted to have been selected for this prestigious project, which draws upon our experience in educational design as well as our work in the residential and hotel sectors.'
Richard Poffley, Director of Finance and Administration, said ’In what was a very tight tender process, we were impressed with the speed in which BGY grasped our vision for the boarding accommodation.’
The refurbishment starts in January 2012 with works on Old Lawrence, which will be later used to as decant accommodation when the main Houses are started in July 2012.
