Head Girl at Roedean reaches high and achieves Black Belt in Karate

Head Girl and now a Black Belt in Karate, Sharon Jacobs really has made the most of her opportunities at Roedean.

At a Black/Brown Belt Karate Grading on Saturday 7 May, Sharon achieved her Black Belt - the highest honour in Karate.  Sharon started participating in the school’s Karate Club in Year 9 and this was her dream moment. Her grading took 3 hours - which required discipline and concentration on very specific Kata and Kumite skills. Sharon is absolutely thrilled and said it was 'a dream come true'.

Felicity MacLeod, (Lower Sixth) is also absolutely delighted in achieving her first 'Brown Belt' Grading. There are 3 Brown Belt Grading's before a Black Belt Grading can be worked towards.

In the history of Karate at Roedean, Sharon is the 4th student to achieve the honour of being a 'Black Belt'. The first was Catherine Philps in 2006. Then in 2008 Milly Edmondson and Tanya Pikalova. Now in 2011 it is Sharon Jacobs' turn.

Sharon's name will be added to the Honours Notice Board in the foyer of Centenary Hall foyer and also will be given recognition in the next Speech Day booklet.

‘We are delighted as always to support all our students in sports that they are passionate about' said Mrs Jane Chandler, Head of PE at Roedean.
