Roedean have been invited to send a delegation representing girls from the United Kingdom to the 55th Commission on the Status of Women to be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York next month.

Miss Langley and Miss King will be leading the team of Cammy Cho, Vicci Cowlett, Joy Crane, Surya Elango, Hannah Smith, Morgan Taylor, Jenny Seong and Gabby Tomlinson.

The main theme of the conference, “Access and participation of women and girls to education” reflects both our founding principles and the global vision for the 21st century.

Vicci Cowlett said, "I am really looking forward to representing girls from the UK on an international level and giving our unique perspective on girls education."

Alongside the other 1500 delegates attending the conference, our students will be advocating the importance of girls’ rights before distinguished members of the human rights community.

Each one will focus on one area at the conference, for example ending violence and discrimination against girl children and closing the gender gap in achievement in Science and Maths.

They will be debating alongside those from around the world at sessions including a special Girls Orientation Day, chaired by former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

Headmistress Frances King said, “We are honoured to be representing British girls in this unique venture. The Roedean delegates understand the gravity of representing their peers, and intend to do so with the gusto which can make girls such influencers and leaders.”
