On Monday 30 January, the Chinese Society came to Roedean to provide the final Chinese New Year celebrations for the School.
The members of the Chinese Society performed a traditional Lion Dance in front of the School accompanied by musicians playing a large drum, cymbals and gong. This energetic dance is believed to bring happiness and success. Before the dance commenced, Mrs King, Headmistress put a red envelope containing a donation from the School to the Chinese Society into the Lion’s mouth.
For our Chinese girls this was a wonderful reminder of home and a way to celebrate New Year. For our non-Chinese girls, it was a fabulous cultural awakening.
