Jill started by reading from her books Deeper than Blue and Last Kiss of the Butterfly with the Junior School Year 5 and 6 pupils.
She then divided the girls into two teams to play an exciting story-writing game. Each team had to choose a character’s name and school setting and then write the beginning, middle and end of a story. To add an extra element of excitement, the girls were challenged to finish their story in 12 minutes...
In the afternoon, Jill talked to the U3 (Year 7) and L4 (Year 8) girls about her books. They acted out a swimming race from the start of Deeper Than Blue and then played the story-writing game. Stories about a gory injury in the DT room, arson in the chemistry lab and disaster in the theatre showed lots of imagination, and an appreciation of the emergency services!
Jill has since emailed to say, ‘I've had a lovely message from Amy (L4) via my website to say she is enjoying Deeper Than Blue and that she is going to try to write her own book now!’
We also heard from Mrs Alty that, ‘The girls really enjoyed the session. One of the girls stayed up late last night and has got to chapter 18 of Deeper than Blue already.'
