Australian exchange student Gaby Phelan, who did a six-week exchange at Roedean (staying in House 1), has just left with ‘great memories, new friends and independence that will last me a lifetime.’
Gaby won her exchange place by entering an essay competition at Fintona Girls’ School, Melbourne, writing about what she hoped to get from a stay at Roedean. Encouraged by her grandmother, she wrote that she knew Roedean was a place where girls gained self-reliance and she wanted to learn these life skills.
Gaby says: “It has been an amazing experience. There is such a happy atmosphere at Roedean with really friendly girls. The classes have been really fun too and I have learned so much. The setting is just amazing, and I will always treasure the memory of the stunning views across the sea.”
Gaby concludes: “I definitely want to return to the UK, it has been such an interesting experience. I have even enjoyed the cold weather which is a change from the very hot summers in Australia! I’m looking forward to going back to see my family, but I am returning having achieved my goals.”
