Apprentice meets X Factor at Roedean School to raise money for charity

19/06/2012

The thought of having to compose and produce a completely original five-track album in less than eight hours would strike fear into the hearts of most. However, this is exactly what a group of 80 pupils at Roedean School have signed up for when they agreed to take part in a fundraising challenge to raise money for the children’s charity DEBRA.

On Friday, 22nd June Lower Sixth volunteers will set about the task run by Musikscool, an organisation that holds music-making events to raise money for charity.

Their challenge will be to:

  • Write, rehearse, perform and record an original 5 track music album by the end of the afternoon.
  • Prepare a marketing plan for raising at least £10,000 during the day from sales and sponsorship of the album.
  • Make a film of the event to promote the positive work that DEBRA and Musikscool do, and generate maximum publicity, including TV and radio coverage.

Carmel Carragher, Head of 6th Form at Roedean, has high expectations. “This event promises to be a highlight in our school calendar. We expect the girls to find it highly challenging, and they are going to learn a lot about themselves, about Leadership and teamwork, and of course make a real contribution to a very worthwhile cause. We have never undertaken this type of venture before at Roedean, and are very excited about it.”

Good luck girls! Hope you can beat the record.
