Science

Aims

Science is a core subject in the National Curriculum. We aim to provide all children with a full range of opportunities enabling them to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of Science in order to encourage curiosity, open-mindedness and a life-long enthusiasm for learning.

Objectives

  • To develop an understanding of scientific concepts and ideas through first-hand experience and secondary sources of information.
  • To develop the necessary skills to carry out scientific investigations and evaluate them.
  • To understand the relationship between Science, Society and everyday life.
  • To promote appreciation and consideration of living things and the environment.
  • To encourage the understanding of Science in relation to personal health.
  • To use aspects of Science to explain and interpret a range of familiar phenomena.
  • To use scientific vocabulary and communicate information confidently in a variety of ways.
  • To recognise hazards and risks and to observe safe practice when using equipment and working with others.   

Year 6 are taught in the science labs at the Senior School.
