Geography

Aims

We aim to provide all children with a full range of opportunities for them to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of Geography.

Objectives

Children should: -

  • Become aware that the world extends beyond their own locality and of how places fit into a wider geographical context 
  • Use appropriate geographical vocabulary to describe and interpret their surroundings    
  • Be able to use and interpret globes, maps and plans at a variety of scales
  • Be able to use secondary sources of evidence to confirm their studies
  • Use ICT to gain access to additional information sources and in handling, classifying and presenting evidence where possible
  • Develop knowledge of the main physical and human features that give localities their character
  • Understand the effect of weather and climate on people and their surroundings  
  • Develop the necessary skills to undertake fieldwork including the use of instruments to make measurements and appropriate techniques
  • Develop an understanding of how the quality of the environment can be affected by human activity.
