The most welcoming private school in Brighton for international students

Roedean is a boarding school in England with a global outlook. On their first day at Roedean, our girls might only gaze towards France; but by their last day they will be ready to step confidently into a global community and career.

International students make up 45% of our community, with girls coming from over 30 countries, notably Nigeria, Hong Kong, China, Canada, USA and Russia. We welcome our international students because we attribute two key Roedean characteristics - open-mindedness and individuality – to the diverse student mix.

However, studying in a UK independent school in another language can be tiring and sometimes challenging. We have an excellent English as an Additional Language (EAL) department to give tailored support to any girls who would like it. These lessons are given on a one to one basis, outside the main timetabled lessons.

As a result, we are confident that our international students can expect the same academic success as those girls who speak English as their first language.

Please note: unless there are special circumstances, we normally expect all applicants, including those living overseas, to visit Roedean as part of the admissions process.

Guardians

It is a legal requirement that international students have a local guardian who lives in England. The guardian should be someone who speaks good English and who can host your daughter during exeat weekends, at the beginning and end of terms or in the case of a medical emergency.

This is a standard requirement in most UK independent schools.
