Private school application process at Roedean

How to apply to private school

The boarding school registration process

The private school application process can seem like a daunting prospect. Admittedly, it is quite thorough to ensure that the offering at Roedean matches the individual applicant. However, it is not a complex process.

Here is our step by step guide:

1.    Read the prospectus: Start by requesting a hard copy. As well as the subject details, facts and figures and practical information, our girls have contributed to ensure that the soul of Roedean is in there too.

2.    Register: Once the registration form and administration fee (£150) have been received, we will invite you to visit, if you haven’t already done so.

3.    Visit: To get a look at the true workings of the School, choose either an Open Day or an individual visit at a time to suit you.

Your daughter may also like to come to a Taster Day to meet some of her prospective classmates. It also helps for students to meet each other before the term begins and many girls swap email addresses and stay in touch throughout the holiday.

It is also worth noting that unless there are special circumstances, we normally expect all applicants, including those living overseas, to visit Roedean as part of the admissions process.

4.
The entrance exam: Assessing prospective students is vital to ensure that our curriculum suits the individual. Our applicants can choose either Roedean’s own entry papers, or the Common Entrance. Our own entry papers are offered on a rolling test schedule.

5.
Interview: We are looking for spirit and a sense of character as well as academic potential in our girls. It is therefore essential for the Headmistress and Senior Tutors to meet all applicants before we offer a place. This is usually done on the same day as testing or during an individual visit.

6.
Accept your place: Congratulations! Once you have been offered a place, we will need a deposit (half the term’s fee, or the whole term if you are living outside the UK) to secure it. Please read the parental contract and Terms and Conditions before signing. We will then send joining instructions, an invitation to New Girls' Briefing and a CAS number if required.

The essential thing to keep in mind about private school applications is that it needs to be planned well in advance. Once you have the process underway it is quite logical.

Private high school applications usually start with a prospectus request. If you already have some queries you would like to check, contact Roedean. Otherwise, download the registration form.
