Jodie Gough, House 4, 2005 - Present:
When you are struggling in a tough lesson, it is nice to know that somewhere out there is a group of people, who understand Roedean, cheering you on. For me personally, it is even better when some of them come to a performance; knowing they're in the audience really spurs me on.
Jodie is the current ORA Scholar. She is studying AS levels in Biology, Music, Theatre Studies and English Lit. Her dream is to work on stage, or alternatively to pursue a literary or musical career.
Tianyi Li, Team 3, 2003 - 2010:
I spoke to many ORS at the London AGM in 2010 and remembered their words of encouragement in the run up to A levels. Women from many different spheres reminded me that there were no limits on my career choices and I could do whatever I wanted.
Tianyi was the ORA Scholar from 2008-10. Following a summer work placement at McLaren Formula 1, Tianyi surprised us all by deciding not to persue Art and Design or Architecture at university. Instead she chose MEng Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London and won her place with two A*s and an A in her A levels. Despite the excitement of London, she still misses Roedean.
The Old Roedeanians’ Scholarship Fund was established over 80 years ago to support pupils – where possible Old Roedeanians’ daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters – who might otherwise have had their education disrupted by unpredicted circumstances or misfortune.
Thanks to the generosity of Old Roedeanians, and careful investment, the fund has grown gradually. Donations are always gratefully received and are eligible for Gift Aid.
There is a preference for pupils at the School who are studying at VIth Form level, and the Fund finances the ORA VIth Form Award.
The Award is means-tested, and Award holders are selected by the School.
For further details, please contact the ORA Treasurer. To obtain an application form, please contact the Director of Finance and Administration.
