Learning through real life experiences

French

Language learning is a key life skill.  We aim to offer all children, from the age of four onwards, a full range of opportunities to experience another language and to provide a foundation for the acquisition of transferable skills for the future learning of foreign languages.

Aims

The aims of all activities are to:

  • Create enthusiasm and enjoyment for another language and curiosity for the culture and way of life
  • Raise awareness of a multi-lingual and multi-cultural world
  • Develop self-confidence and self-expression in listening and speaking activities. leading to reading and writing in Key Stage 2
  • Develop ability to use context and clues to interpret meaning
  • Give a sense of achievement in being able to take part in simple tasks (conversations, games, songs) in another language
  • Develop communication and literacy skills which will lay a foundation for future language learning
  • Enhance language awareness and reinforce skills used in the mother tongue as well as in the foreign language
  • Develop listening skills and learn to differentiate unfamiliar sounds
  • Develop pronunciation and articulation of sounds not commonly use in speaking English
