Roedean is one of 18 Sussex school participating in the inaugural Bacheller Thacker Future in Farming Project, in association with Sussex Life.
Miss Seager is leading a team of L4 pupils in the project. They are Elysia Holmes, Emily Bishop, Caitlin Nathan-Maister, Emily Nicholas, Marina Sagay, Caitlin Scott.
The competition tests pupils’ skills, knowledge and imagination in proposing sustainable solutions for farming diversification. The project is timed to coincide with the launch of the new South Downs National Park on 1 April 2011.
“The girls are really enjoying preparing this cross-curricular project. It combines areas such as biology, conservation, geography, law, renewable energy and science. The visit of local farmer Mr Carnaghan (pictured above) to share his experiences in farming really brought their research to life and it was an added bonus to see some of the new lambs too,” said Miss Seager.
The final judging for the Future in Farming Schools Competition 2011 will take place at the South of England Show at Ardingly on Friday 10 June.
