• Amber A (Year 10) took her place as regional champion at the UK Sportshall Championships in Manchester on Sunday 17th of April.  We are very proud to say she won the UK Sportshall All-Rounder title. There were 75 Athletes in her competition and she scored a winning total of 287 out of 300 - 11 points more than her closest rival. Amber won the long sprint, came second in the vertical jump and sixth in the Shot put. It was a fantastic result as the most promising young athletes battled it out to be crowned UK champions at the flagship Athletics development event of the year. Many current members of the GB & NI Athletics Team experienced their first taste of Athletics through Sportshall competition including High Jump UK Junior record holder Morgan Lake, who completed her Sportshall career winning the Under 15’s All Rounder competition in 2012. Athletes such as Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Kelly Sotherton and Mark-Lewis-Francis also took part at this event in previous years. Dina Asher Smith also competed in Sportshall and is now amongst a strong generation of young British sprinters. Another incredible achievement for Amber showing great promise for the future.
  • Amber A (Year 10) had a great year in Athletics in 2014-2015, culminating in her winning the Sussex Schools’ Combined Events Championships in May, smashing the previous Championship Best Performance. Earlier in the year, she silver at the National Indoor Athletics Championships in Sheffield, running a personal best of 25.18 over 200m in the semi-final. Amber is currently ranked No. 1 for Triple Jump and 300m, 2nd in the UK at this distance, and 5th for Long Jump. In January, Amber competed in the South of England indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley, where she claimed two golds and a silver. Amber beat the Championship Best Performance (CBP) in the 300m for the U15 girls’ age group, taking more than two seconds off the original CBP. This is the fastest time ever run by an U15 girl for 300m indoors in Britain. This takes Amber to 6th place in the UK U15 girls’ all-time list.
  • Amber P (Year 10) competed for Brighton and Hove AC in the Sussex County Championships at K2 in the summer term, and won the U15 Javelin event, with a personal best of 32.79 metres with her first throw – she is therefore County Champion. Not only a talented athlete, Amber has been selected for the Great Britain squad, and was also selected for the Inter Regional U16 Girls’ Water Polo competition in July, representing South East England.
  • In June, Phoebe C (Year 13) took part in the U20 girls’ 1-mile road championships in Westminster, and was thrilled to beat her PB of 5.54 with a new time of 5.48. She also won the Brighton mini-mile race for the fourth time this year. Not just at home on the roads, Phoebe competed in the English Schools’ Athletics Association (ESAA) Cross Country Championships, where she came in 135th out of 300 girls, however, more importantly she placed 5th in Sussex and the Sussex Senior Girls’ Team was placed 7th overall.
  • Twins, Yelena and Amalia F (Year 8) played in the East Grinstead Junior Netball tournament for CD Phoenix U12 team which took the title for their age group. Their older sister Freya (Year 10), along with Amber Anning, is part of the Mid Sussex Netball Regional U14 team which qualified for the England Netball National Clubs U14 Finals in Newcastle.   
  • Eva W (Year 13) won the English Schools’ Table Tennis Championships, making her the national champion. She was seeded 4, but saw off all her rivals with ease – this is an exceptional achievement.  This then made her eligible to represent England against Scotland, Wales, and Ireland in June 2015 – she was unbeaten in these tournament, both in singles and doubles, making her a double champion!
  • In January, Loretta S (Year 11) was selected in the South East England Football Team, meaning that she represented South East England in the Independent Schools Football Association Girls’ Regional Representative Festival.
  • Lea D (Year 13) swam at the Tom Handley Open Meet, held in Brighton in September, for Brighton Swimming Club, where she won three gold medals for 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly. Lea also got a silver in the 100 Individual Medley. Last summer, she also competed at the British Gas National Swimming Championships in Sheffield. She raced in 50m freestyle and placed third in her heat, only 0.1second off her Personal Best, well done Lea!
  • Amber A (Year 10) - Congratulations to Amber A (L5), who has been asked to take on an ambassador role for the Sportshall organisation, following her wonderful successes all season in Athletics, and in particular becoming the Sportshall Champion this year.  She and her male counterpart will be the two ambassadors for the forthcoming season.  She was honoured to be offered this opportunity, and will be a wonderful role-model, presenting awards at UK Championship events, and inspiring budding athletes to take up the sport and work hard to hone their talents.  We have no doubt that she will perform these duties excellently, and their organisation’s decision to choose Amber to be their ambassador is a testament to her commitment and dedication to the sport – well done!

  • Amber A (Year 10) recently won two golds at the Sussex Schools’ Championships at K2. She ran a personal best, broke a 13 year old Championship best performance and set a club record of 12.09 seconds in the 100m before anchoring the Intermediate girls team to a 4x100 relay win. 
  • Amber P (Year 10) won silver in the Intermediate girls javelin with a throw of 35.34m . Both her and Amber Anning have been selected to represent Sussex at the South-East inter-counties in Surrey next Saturday.
  • Ruby A and Bonnie W (Year 7) successfully got through to the second round of trials for the Sussex U14 netball academy. The girls will return to Chichester in the coming weeks in the hope of selection for the Sussex satellite squad. The competition will be tough as there are approximately 80 girls competing for 40 places. We wish them the best of luck.
