Holiday Duties

We value community involvement.  Widening participation and developing accessibility to the Farm provides a unique insight into this wonderful environment.  If you are interested in taking on a holiday duty, please contact a  member of the farm team on farm@roedean.co.uk and follow the link at the bottom of the page to check for availability - we are very grateful for your help and support. 

9am - morning duties include:

  • changing the chickens' water (this needs to be fresh each day)
  • counting the animals (16 sheep and 14 hens)
  • ensuring the fences are in good condition and the gates are shut
  • collecting any eggs and returning these to the shelves in the Bothy - each to be date stamped
  • log any maintenance requests with jro@roedean.co.uk
  • log that the duty is complete on the timetable whiteboard situated by the feed bins

5pm - afternoon duties include:

  • feeding the sheep (3 scoops of sheep nuts)
  • refilling the chickens' food (fill the feeder to the brim with layers of pellets)
  • feeding the chickens with corn (2-3 handfuls can be hand-fed or scattered on the floor)
  • changing the chickens' water (this needs to be fresh each day)
  • counting the animals (16 sheep and 14 hens)
  • ensuring the fences are in good condition and the gates are shut
  • collecting any eggs and returning these to the shelves in the Bothy - each to be date stamped
  • log that the duty is complete on the timetable whiteboard situated by the feed bins

Seasonal

  • ensuring that ice is broken and removed from water trough
  • ensuring that there is adequate shelter from sun / extreme weather
  • clearing mud to ensure access to the feeders in the chicken coop

Please mark off that the duty is complete on the whiteboard situated by the feed bins in the Bothy. Report any additional notes in the comments box.
